問:修習入出息念時,佛陀說:「若比丘修習安那般那念,多修習者,得身止息及心止息,有覺有觀寂滅,純一明分想修習滿足。」(雜阿含經第八○二經),其意義為何?


答:

◆禪修時,有二類隨煩惱要克服,第一類是障礙「寂止」方面的身麤重、心麤重,第二類是障礙「內觀」方面的欲尋、恚尋、害尋、欲伺、恚伺、害伺、欲想、恚想、害想。

◆第一類「止」的障礙,經由不斷修習入出息念,獲得身輕安、心輕安後,消除身麤重、心麤重,所以佛說:「若比丘修習安那般那念,多修習者,得身止息及心止息」。

◆第二類「觀」的障礙,經由不斷修習入出息念,令欲尋、恚尋、害尋、欲伺、恚伺、害伺悉皆靜息,所以佛說:「有覺有觀寂滅」。此中的「覺、觀」是「尋、伺」二字的舊譯。注意此處是修習智慧而不是指二禪的修習禪定。經由不斷修習明分想,滅除無明分的欲想、恚想、害想,所以佛說:「純一明分想修習滿足」,又說:「安那般那念修、習、多修習者,斷諸覺、想。」欲想、恚想、害想是欲尋、恚尋、害尋的「根」,經由不斷修習入出息念而斷除。
