問：禪修時，為何要觀察四大？有何依據？
答： 佛陀在《大念住經》中，說： 比丘於任何處所，任何姿勢，觀察此身，了知：此身中，有地、水、火、風。 ◆所以，禪修者要觀察自己皮膚內所包的整個身體，上至頭頂，下至腳底，感覺到體內「地、水、火、風」四大的生滅變化，感覺到身體的冷熱、鬆硬、痛癢，這些都是四大的變化所形成，都是遵循大自然的法則在運作著，都是無常、無我的。
